고양문화원은 1984년 개원하여 지난 40년 동안 고양의 전통문화를 연구, 발굴, 발전, 보전하고 후대에 물려주기 위해 끊임없이 노력해 왔다. 고양문화원은 전통문화 상설 공연과 문화 예술마당(강좌)을 진행하는 등 고양시의 충실한 문화지킴이 역할을 하고 있다. 고양문화원 내부에는 고양의 역사와 문화가 잘 나타나 있으며, 디지털 도서관도 운영 중이며 전통혼례 진행도 가능하다.
