1978년 설립된 의정부 제일시장은 점포 수 600개가 넘는 대형 전통시장이다. 시장 출입구를 기준으로 가, 나, 다, 라동으로 나눠 동별로 가동은 의류(브랜드), 나동은 잡화 및 커튼, 다동은 식품 및 방앗간, 라동은 한복을 포함한 일반 의류 등으로 구분되어 있다. 또한 시장 중심에 있는 십자마당은 다양한 공연문화가 펼쳐지는 지역민의 커뮤니티 공간 역할도 하고 있다.
